Plan Your Visit to Rwanda

Rwanda, known as the ‘Land of a Thousand Hills,’ offers breathtaking landscapes, remarkable wildlife encounters—especially gorilla trekking—and a peaceful atmosphere. It’s one of the safest countries in Africa with a strong focus on cleanliness and eco-tourism.

Best time to visit

  • June to September (dry season, ideal for gorilla trekking).
  • Short dry season: mid-December to February.

Visa & Entry Requirements

  • Tourist Visa: Most travelers can obtain a visa on arrival or apply in advance through the Rwanda e-Visa system.
  • East Africa Tourist Visa: Grants entry to Rwanda, Uganda, and Kenya with a single visa—ideal for regional travel.
  • Passport Validity: Passports must be valid for at least 6 months from the date of entry.

  • Yellow Fever vaccination required.

Getting around Rwanda

  • Public Transport: Public buses and minivans operate in major towns. In Kigali, the bus network is well-organized and affordable.
  • Moto Taxis: The most popular and efficient way to navigate cities. Always wear a helmet (provided by the rider).
  • Car Hire: Recommended for tourists visiting national parks or remote areas. A 4×4 vehicle is ideal for safaris and countryside travel.
  • Domestic Flights: Limited but available between Kigali and select tourism regions like Akagera or Volcanoes National Park via charter services.

Currency & Payments

  • Rwandan Franc (RWF). Major cities accept cards, but cash is needed in rural areas.

  • USD widely accepted for tourism.
