Plan Your Visit to Kenya

Kenya is a premier safari destination boasting iconic parks like the Maasai Mara, diverse cultures, and pristine beaches along the Indian Ocean. While generally safe for tourists, it’s important to stay aware in urban areas and follow travel advisories.

Best time to visit

  • July to October (Great Wildebeest Migration in Maasai Mara).

  • Coastal visits: December to March.

Visa & Entry Requirements

  • Tourist Visa: Most visitors need to apply for an E-Visa prior to arrival via the Kenya eVisa portal. Visas are no longer issued on arrival.

  • East Africa Tourist Visa: Available for those traveling between Kenya, Rwanda, and Uganda under one visa.

  • Passport Validity: Your passport should be valid for at least 6 months from your arrival date.

Health & Safety

  • Yellow Fever vaccination recommended.

  • Consider vaccines: Hepatitis A & B, Typhoid.

  • Use mosquito nets and repellents.

  • Stay hydrated with safe water.

  • Avoid isolated areas after dark.

  • Respect local customs and dress modestly.

Getting around Rwanda

  • Matatus & Buses: Minibuses known as matatus and larger buses are common in towns and cities. They are cheap but can be crowded.
  • Taxis & Ride-Hailing: Widely available in major cities like Nairobi and Mombasa. Ride-hailing apps such as Uber, Bolt, and Little Cab offer safer options.
  • Car Rental: A good option for independent travelers. A 4×4 is highly recommended for national parks and rural areas.
  • Domestic Flights: Kenya has a strong network of local flights connecting Nairobi with safari destinations like Maasai Mara, Amboseli, and the coast.

Currency & Payments

  • Kenyan Shilling (KES). ATMs available in cities;

  • Carry cash for remote areas.

  • USD widely accepted for tourist services.
